NV Energy residential electric customers in Northern Nevada can reduce their heating and cooling costs and help lower peak energy demand by participating in the new mPowered program.  The program’s innovative technology can lower cooling costs for an average single family home by as much as 15 percent. Participants can control their thermostat using a smartphone or computer and view customized energy savings reports online.

The mPowered Home Energy Management program offers eligible residential customers user-friendly tools to optimize their energy use year-round. Participating customers will receive a smart thermostat with online energy saving software free of charge. The service saves energy and maintains comfort by continuously adapting the operation of the customer’s heating and cooling (HVAC) equipment based upon how the home heats up and cools down, outside weather conditions and the customer’s comfort preferences.

“The mPowered program provides our customers with easy-to-use technology that can help them save energy and lower their bills without sacrificing comfort” said Gary Smith, Director of Customer Energy Solutions for NV Energy. “We are excited to be bringing new options to our customers in the Reno-Sparks area.”

Customers can benefit from further savings by participating in energy events initiated by NV Energy during times of peak summer energy demand. These events help reduce the overall electric load at a time when energy costs are higher, allowing NV Energy to more cost-effectively meet the summer peak demand for electricity. The new technology used by the mPowered program makes these energy events practically unnoticeable, but customers can override an energy event at any time.

The northern Nevada mPowered program is limited to 600 residential customers in the Reno-Sparks area.  Eligible customers must have central air conditioning and broadband internet access and router with an open port. Visit nvenergy.com/mpowered for full program details and eligibility requirements.
