NV Energy to Open Revised RenewableGenerations Program

NV Energy will open its RenewableGenerations program on August 13 for electric customers who want to install renewable energy systems at their homes and businesses. Revisions to the company’s RenewableGenerations program, which will take effect when the program opens, were approved last month by the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada.

Among the key changes to the program are:

  • Customers interested in participating in the program will be able to apply at any time and there will no longer be a cap on how many project applications can be approved during a given period. The program will remain open for applications until funding runs out or the capacity goal is reached. Previously, if program capacity was oversubscribed, the applications were selected by a lottery.

  • Incentives for NV Energy’s customer-installed solar electric, wind and hydroelectric systems will be slightly reduced. For example, the incentive for residential customers who install photovoltaic solar panels will be reduced from 50 cents to 40 cents per watt of installed solar energy.

The renewable energy program was created in 2003 by the Nevada State Legislature to encourage Nevadans to install solar energy on rooftops, and then expanded by subsequent sessions of the legislature to include small wind and hydroelectric projects. Since the first solar panels were installed by an NV Energy customer in 2004, more than 2,000 projects capable of generating a total of nearly 56 megawatts of energy have been installed statewide.

NV Energy, Inc. provides a wide range of energy services to 1.3 million customers throughout Nevada and nearly 40 million tourists annually.  NV Energy is a holding company whose principal subsidiaries, Nevada Power Company and Sierra Pacific Power Company, are doing business as NV Energy. The company is headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada. Information about NV Energy is available on the company’s website, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube pages, which can be accessed via nvenergy.com.
