NV Energy’s award-winning smart thermostat program is once again available to northern Nevada customers. The mPowered Home Energy Management program offers eligible residential customers up to four smart thermostats, a mobile app, energy savings software, professional installation and monthly reports tracking their energy savings year-round, all at no cost.

A pilot program was launched last year and due to the tremendous response, NV Energy has opened the program to an additional 800 participants in northern Nevada.  Customers residing in single-family homes and townhouses need central air, heating and cooling, plus broadband Internet access with a wireless router to operate their mPowered smart thermostat(s).

Customers who enroll in mPowered can save 10 to 15 percent on their heating and cooling costs year round.

NV Energy offers mPowered at no cost to eligible customers in exchange for reducing their electricity use during times of peak demand. Demand for energy tends to be highest on cold winter nights and hot summer days.  This is also when energy is most expensive.  mPowered participants allow their thermostat’s set-point temperature to be automatically adjusted by up to four degrees during what are called Energy Events.  The technology used by mPowered makes the energy events practically unnoticeable, but customers can override an energy event at any time.
