Imposters posing as utility representatives; Just another scam to obtain credit card numbers or cash

NV Energy today warned of another scam designed to obtain credit card numbers and money transfers from unsuspecting customers.  The company has learned that imposters are calling customers demanding payments and threatening to turn off power.

NV Energy does not call customers about utility payments, regardless if they owe money. The company does not solicit credit card or other payments over the phone. Customers whose accounts are in arrears are notified through the U.S. Postal Service that payment is due.

Anyone receiving such a call is encouraged to report the incident to their local police authorities. Customers may also call NV Energy's Customer Service Department in Reno at 775-834-4444, or toll free from other parts of northern Nevada at (800) 962-0399.
