NV Energy electric customers in Midas and several ranches in the surrounding area will be affected by a Thursday, Nov. 8, power outage needed to accommodate the installation of a new transformer at an electrical substation located a few miles southwest of Midas. The outage will begin at 7:30 a.m. and is expected last for about six to eight hours. Newmont’s Midas Mine will also be affected by the construction-related outage.

According to Jim Kracaw, area service manager for NV Energy’s Winnemucca office, approximately 30 customers will be affected by the project. He said the new transformer will replace a transformer that failed about a year ago. Since that occurred, the substation has been relying on a temporary transformer at the site.
