NV Energy electric customers in Midas and several ranches in the surrounding area will be affected by a Friday, March 1, power outage needed to complete the installation of a new transformer at an electrical substation located a few miles southwest of Midas. The outage will begin at 10 a.m. and is expected last from two to four hours. Newmont’s Midas Mine will also be affected by the construction-related outage.

According to Jim Kracaw, area service manager for NV Energy’s Winnemucca office, approximately 30 customers will be affected by the project. He said the new transformer will replace a transformer that failed about a year ago. Since that occurred, the substation has been relying on a temporary transformer at the site.
