NV Energy line crews are finishing up the reconstruction of 10 miles of power lines in the Carson Valley in order to improve service to the Gardnerville Ranchos and the south side of Gardnerville.

The $3 million project includes new switching equipment on Kimmerling Road that will provide an electrical connection between the Muller Lane Substation west of Minden and the Pine Nut Substation located along Highway 395 south of Gardnerville.

According to John Perra, NV Energy’s project manager for energy delivery in the Carson City-Carson Valley area, the project will provide a back-up power source for the Pine Nut Substation, which is currently served by a single transmission line that originates at another substation east of Minden.

“This project will benefit NV Energy electric customers in Gardnerville if service from the Pine Nut Substation is disrupted. Outages affecting the Gardnerville Ranchos and the south end of town can now be restored more quickly because of this new tie to an alternate source,” Perra said.

He said the project will be completed by the end of the year.

NV Energy serves a total of 16,800 customers in the Carson Valley area, and about 7,500 of them rely on the Pine Nut Substation for electricity.
