New energy efficient LED lights installed in the parking lots at the Peppermill in Reno and Western Village in Sparks could save the casinos more than $100,000 annually on their electric bills, according to NV Energy.

The Peppermill and Western Village also received incentives totaling $92,476 from NV Energy’s Sure Bet Program, which provides technical assistance and financial incentives to commercial electric customers who make energy efficiency improvements.

The two properties, both owned by Peppermill Resorts, Inc., replaced 406 old 1,000-watt metal halide lighting fixtures with180-watt LED fixtures that will reduce their annual electricity consumption by approximately 1.6 million kilowatt hours. That’s equivalent to the amount of electricity needed to power about 175 northern Nevada homes for a year, and represents an annual 1,000-ton reduction in carbon emissions, said Dave Wyllie with the Sure Bet Program.

In addition, Western Village officials have confirmed that the property has saved between 85 to 90 percent on parking lot energy costs, based on their last monthly billing.
