Beginning Monday, Aug. 18, NV Energy will begin a five week project to improve the efficiency and reliability of electric service in one of the older neighborhoods in Elko.

To make sure utility equipment is in top working condition, the company and its contractors will be clearing trees and branches from power lines, performing maintenance, replacing some wires and insulators and refurbishing or replacing some power poles.

Work will be conducted in alleyways and on streets roughly bounded by Sewell Drive, Cedar Street, College Parkway and Walnut Street.  Residents could experience some traffic delays, especially passing through the alleyways.

Electric crews will be working in the area Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Disruptions to electric service are not anticipated in the beginning, but may be necessary as the project progresses.  NV Energy will notify any residents who will be without power with as much advance notice as possible.

According to Dick Campbell, Elko Area Service Manager for NV Energy, “This continues work we’ve been doing for the past few summers to update and modernize a portion of our electric system in the area.  When completed, the area should see improved reliability as well as fewer outages and a shorter duration of outages if they do occur.”
