NV Energy Offers Seven Back to School Safety Tips

As school resumes throughout southern Nevada, NV Energy encourages students and drivers to be aware of the following seven safety tips:

  1. Don't double park near a school. It blocks visibility for other children and vehicles.

  2. Never sit or stand on transformer boxes as they contain live electrical parts.

  3. Stay away from downed power lines, and report them to NV Energy at (702) 402-2900. If a power line is down near or comes into contact with the school bus, stay on the bus.

  4. Drivers, do not block the crosswalk when stopped at a red light or waiting to make a turn, forcing students to go around you; this could put them in the path of moving traffic.

  5. The area 10 feet around a school bus is the most dangerous for children; stop far enough back to allow them space to safely enter and exit the bus.

  6. Always stay in clear view of the bus driver and never walk behind the bus.

  7. Motorists should never pass a vehicle that has stopped for pedestrian students.
