Effective June 1, Sierra PacificPower Company’s residential customers will see a decrease in theirelectric bills as a result of the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada(PUCN’s) decision this week.

The typical residential customerusing 715 kilowatt hours of electricity per month would see a $2.32 decrease,or approximately 3%, from $77.03 to $74.71. For a multi-family residentialcustomer, living for example in an apartment, and using 475 kilowatt hoursof electricity per month, the decrease would be $1.98, or from $52.18to $50.20 The PUCN’s decision results in an increase for the typicalsmall business of 1.6 percent, or approximately $2.50. In accordance withNevada law, the company filed rate cases in November 2001 and February2002.

The average overall increasefor all classes of customers is approximately 5%, with residential customersseeing a decrease and some commercial and industrial customers seeingincreases ranging from approximately 1 -11%.
