Jay Elquist has been named area manager of district operations for Sierra Pacific Power Company's Elko office. In his new position, Elquist will be responsible for providing electric service to approximately 15,000 customers in the Elko area, covering a geographic area of about 2,300 square miles.

For the past two years, Elquist has been the senior utility designer in Sierra Pacific's Elko office. Prior to joining the company, he worked in Reno as an engineering consultant and project manager. He also draws on experience as a business owner and property manager. Elquist is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Nevada.

Elquist, who was raised in Battle Mountain and Elko, earned his electrical engineering degree from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1992. He and his wife Cindy, have four children. Elquist currently serves on the Elko Planning Commission and is a volunteer soccer and T-ball coach.
