Mary O. Simmons has been elected Controller for Sierra Pacific Power Co., by its board of directors. Simmons is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Internal Auditor. She joined the company 12 years ago and has held various positions including Director of Budgets and Financial Services. She was most recently Director, Water Policy and Planning. Prior to joining Sierra Pacific, Simmons was in public accounting for eight years.

Simmons is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno with a bachelor's degree in accounting. She is currently serving as Treasurer of the Board of Directors for Step 2 and Treasurer for the Sierra Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross. She previously served as President of the Northern Nevada Institute of Internal Auditors and as a member of the Washoe County School District's Audit Committee. Simmons is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountant and the American Institute of Internal Auditors.
