Reno Mayor Jeff Griffin proclaimed Wednesday, October 15, 1997, as a Day of Honor for the heroic efforts of four-year-old Seth Williamson. A formal proclamation will be presented to Seth at 10:30 a.m. on October 15, 1997, in front of the Council Chambers at Reno City Hall.

Seth picked up important safety tips on natural gas at Sierra Pacific?s booth at the recent Rib Cook Off in Sparks. When he later visited his grandfather?s home in Stead, he detected the smell of natural gas and told his grandfather it was important to call Sierra Pacific. His grandfather, Thomas Williamson, called immediately and Sierra Pacific found a natural gas leak in the water heater.

As Seth demonstrated, it is important to take immediate action if you smell gas. A slight odor of gas may only mean that a pilot light has gone out and should be relit. A strong odor means you should open windows, leave the home at once and call Sierra Pacific from a neighbor?s home.
