Posters on Poles Hazardous to Utility Workers

With warmer weather approaching, Sierra Pacific Power co. is asking customers to help the company guard the safety of utility workers by not attaching garage sale signs or other notices to utility poles.

Even small nails or tacks used to attach a poster to a pole could cause a utility lineman to slip or fall and result in serious injury, Sierra Pacific spokesman Bob Sagan said. Nails, tacks or staples are dangerous in this case because they make it difficult for a utility worker using climbing hooks to set the hooks safely into the pole.
