Sierra Pacific Power Co. has donated 25 used utility vehicles to 25 community groups serving northern Nevada. It is the single largest vehicle donation ever made by the company. The estimated total value of the vehicles is close to $79,000.

The vehicles included sedans, vans, pickups and flatbeds. While no longer suitable for day-to-day use by the utility, they have been well maintained and are capable of many more miles of light-duty use, according to Jeff Ceccarelli, vice president of Distribution Services for the utility.

"Overall, since 1983, Sierra Pacific has donated more than 190 used vehicles to volunteer fire departments, community, youth and senior citizen organizations, hospitals and educational groups," Ceccarelli said."We can't think of a better way to divest ourselves of these vehicles."

Donations vary according to the needs of the requesting organization and which types of vehicles are next on the fleet retirement list. An organization requesting a vehicle is placed on a list and matched to the type requested when it becomes available. Donations are administered by the company's Community Relations Department.
