Nevada Power Company announced that a new record system peak of 4,772 megawatts was recorded at 5:00 p.m. today (July 10, 2003). The prior system peak occurred last year at 5 p.m., July 12, with a recording of 4,617 megawatts.###

Nevada Power Company announced that a new record system peak of 4,772 megawatts was recorded at 5:00 p.m. today (July 10, 2003). The prior system peak occurred last year at 5 p.m., July 12, with a recording of 4,617 megawatts.
The company said it is likely that today's record will be surpassed this summer.
Increases in demand can be attributed to customer growth as well as weather factors. Nevada Power has more than 675,000 customers today, compared with approximately 630,000 customers one year ago. Ten years ago, the 1993 peak was 2,681 megawatts with a customer base of less than 400,000.
