Nevada Power will present 20 listening centers to Myrtle Tate Elementary that will help boost students'reading skills, improve language acquisition, and offer a fun alternative to help students enjoy literature on Wednesday, October 29 at 10 a.m. The presentation is in celebration of a four-year partnership with the school. Following the presentation, employees will deliver plastic pouches filled with school supplies to every student in the school.

"Every year, it gets bigger and better," said Tate Principal Marie Wakefield."The employees of Nevada Power are to be commended for everything they have done over the past four years to make a difference in the lives of our students, and we are excited to have them as our business partner."

"We are thrilled with our partnership and the additional resources we have been able to provide Myrtle Tate," said Pat Shalmy, president of Nevada Power."Partnerships like this allow us to do our part in building a strong and vital community."

During its four-year partnership with Myrtle Tate, Company employees have stopped by the school on a weekly basis to read to students, provided materials and labor to build a desert tortoise habitat, collected goods for Thanksgiving baskets, supported school festivals, and much more. Currently, Nevada Power is sponsoring school participation in the Nevada Ballet Theatre Future Dance program.

The partnership between Myrtle Tate and Nevada Power is coordinated through the Focus Schools Project of the CCSD School-Community Partnership Office. About 110 local businesses and other groups are involved in the program to benefit 76 Focus Schools, of which 57 are paired with one or more business/community partners.

Myrtle Tate Elementary is located at 2450 N. Lincoln, northwest of Lamb and Carey.
