Las Vegas, Nev. -- Nevada Power Company is sponsoring Nevada Power Days, an interactive tour of the Energy Star rated"Home by Design"showhouse. The home will be open January 13-16, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on January 17, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. -- in the parking lot of the Stardust Hotel and Casino. Admission is free and the first 100 customers each day will receive a free compact fluorescent lamp.

The two-story, 3,000 square-foot home premiered at the International Consumer Electronics Show this week and highlights the latest in smart-home technologies and energy- efficient appliances.

"This showhouse employs affordable technology that will give our customers a new perspective on home design and a better understanding of energy-saving products available to them in the market,"said Bob Balzar, director of energy efficiency and conservation for Nevada Power."Our customers are increasingly interested in optimizing their energy use and at this event they can learn about the many solutions technology is offering."

Nevada Power energy experts will be on hand during the event to guide customers through the showhouse and review the features and benefits of the technology used. The full- scale, fully furnished Home by Design was system-built with each appliance, building material and method chosen to work in concert, resulting in a home 24.4% more efficient than the 2000 International Energy Conservation Code. In addition, the home has the latest in broadband technology, demonstrating how a home can be monitored for peak power usage, giving homeowners the option to reduce consumption and lower their power bills.

The Showhouse is located in the south parking lot of the Stardust Hotel and Casino at 3000 Las Vegas Blvd. South. For additional information, visit:
