Nevada Power Hits Peak for the Third Day in a Row

Nevada Power Company reported a record system peak of 4969 megawatts between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. today. This exceeds the previous peak of 4933 megawatts recorded on August 10th and 4859 megawatts on August 9th.This is the third record peak established this year. The company said it is not unusual to exceed previous peaks during periods of extreme temperatures.Increases in demand can be attributed to customer growth as well as weather factors. Nevada Power has more than 700,000 customers today, compared with approximately 675,000 customers one year ago.Tips to help customers stay cooler include using certain appliances (ovens, dishwashers, clothes dryers, etc.) during off-peak hours (8 p.m.Â- 11 a.m.) as well as running ceiling and oscillating fans to help increase airflow.###
