Nevada Power Company achieved a new record system peak of 3,855 megawatts Friday, July 17, at 5 p.m.

Today's peak marks the fourth consecutive day Nevada Power Company has achieved a record peak. Today's peak marks a climb of more than 385 megawatts in one year, equal to the peak electrical demands of more than 86,000 homes. Last year's record system peak occurred Thursday, August 7, with a recording of 3,469 megawatts.

Nevada Power Company is well prepared to deliver the electricity its customers require, as each year customer demand for electricity grows. From 1993 to 1997, the peak demand increased by nearly 30 percent from 2,681 megawatts in 1993 to 3,469 megawatts in 1997. The Company has experienced a 32 percent growth rate in customers served during the same time period. Nevada Power Company provides electricity and energy services to more than 1.2 million residents of Las Vegas and southern Nevada and is the nation's fastest-growing electric utility.
