Michael Niggli, Nevada Power Company's chairman and CEO, will address volunteers during the first 2000 United Way of Southern Nevada Program Selection meeting, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 15 at Nevada Power, 6226 W. Sahara Ave. The meeting will determine which charitable organizations the United Way will be able to fund in 2000.
"Nevada Power is honored to once again be involved in the selection process," said Niggli, who also chairs this year's committee."Our employees volunteer their personal time to participate in this worthy endeavor, and their efforts do not go unnoticed. We're proud to assist the United Way and look forward to a successful 2000."
All United Way accredited agencies are eligible to submit proposals to request funding for their programs. The volunteer teams review the proposals and visit each site. Once the review process is completed, the program selection teams meet and determine funding recommendations to be presented to the United Way Board of Directors.
"Volunteers are the heart of the program selection process," said Rosemary West, United Way director of community development."Without volunteers, such as those from Nevada Power, the program selection process would not be possible."
The volunteer teams will make site visits to eligible programs March 20 through May 5 and formulate recommendations May 8 through May 12. Final recommendations will be presented May 18.
