Nevada Power Company is right on schedule for completion of its Crystal Transmission Project in June 1999 to open access to import 900 additional megawatts of electricity to the Las Vegas Valley. The Company recently received a 275-ton, 672-megawatt transformer for the heart of the project, the first of two large-scale transformers to be used in the project. Another 672- megawatt transformer will be delivered by train to the site in early October.

The Crystal Transmission Project will allow Nevada Power Company to continue to meet the growing demand for power in the Las Vegas Area. In 1997, the customer growth rate reached 6.4 percent, making Nevada Power Company the fastest-growing electric utility in the United States.
