Myrtle Tate Elementary Welcomes Desert Tortoise With Grand Opening of New Desert Tortoise Habitat

Myrtle Tate Elementary will welcome their first desert tortoise into their newly completed desert tortoise habitat. The tortoise,"Myrtle Tate Kate", is being adopted from the Tortoise Group. Volunteers from Nevada Power, Native Resources Nevada, the Tortoise Group and the Clark County School District worked for 9 months to complete the tortoise habitat on Myrtle Tate's front lawn.

Myrtle Tate staff members and students will get the chance to meet"Kate" during a student assembly and then participate as she enters her environmental classroom. The habitat will provide Myrtle Tate students the opportunity to study the desert tortoise for years to come.
