Walter M. Higgins, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Sierra Pacific Resources, has been appointed to the Board of Trustees for the National Environment Education and Training Foundation (NEETF), Washington, D.C. Higgins'appointment was announced in the Federal Register by Carol M. Browner, administrator of the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency. He will serve a four-year term on the 13-member NEETF Board. The Foundation was established in 1990 to promote education and training as necessary tools to"further environmental protection and sustainable, environmentally sound development." Through federal matching grants, NEETF supports activities that increase the environmental literacy of the public. Sierra Pacific Resources is the parent company of Sierra Pacific Power Co.; an electric, natural gas and water utility headquartered in Reno, Nevada.
