I'll be seeing you at Piper's

Too bad Irving Kahal and Sammy Fain can't be at Piper's Opera House in Virginia City on Saturday, February 26, to hear big band impresario Brian Farnon's 18 piece Piper's Opera House Swing Band and Lt. Governor Loraine Hunt (formerly of the Mary Kaye Trio) playing Kahal and Fain's signature 1938 piece:"I'll Be Seeing You". Piper's first annual Wine and Music Gala is certain to be a memorable occasion for all. Farnon was the celebrated musical director at Harrah's Tahoe during the halcyon days of the 1960's through the 1990's, when Sinatra and Nat King Cole played the showroom and an ingenue Barbra Streisand opened for Liberace. This 1940's-themed Piper's Gala will benefit the Piper's Opera House's restoration fund and will begin at 5 to 9 p.m. on February 26. Fabulous silent and live auctions are planned with local celebrity John Tyson hosting the live auction.

Piper's Opera House was built in 1862 and hosted the greats of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries of stage, theatre, and opera. Corporate sponsors for"I'll be seeing you" are the Sierra Pacific Foundation and Southern Wine and Spirits. To reserve your tickets call 847-0454, 847-7750, or e-mail mtwain1861@reno.quik.com
