The America's Schools Program, in cooperation with the Nevada Association of School Boards, announced today that they have formed a partnership with Sierra Pacific Resources, a holding company whose principal subsidiaries are Nevada Power and Sierra Pacific Power, to support Nevada's K-12 public school educational and extracurricular programs.  By participating in the America's Schools Recycling Program for printer cartridges and cell phones, Nevada Power and Sierra Pacific will generate additional dollars for school programs such as arts, music, drama, athletics, libraries, computers and other subjects.

The America's Schools Recycling Program is designed to help fund extracurricular activities by partnering with community-minded corporations like Nevada Power and Sierra Pacific.   Through this program, printer and toner cartridges and/or cell phones are collected and recycled, creating a revenue source for school programs.

“Nevada Power and Sierra Pacific Power are committed to helping our schools flourish, and that includes participating in worthwhile programs such as America's Schools Recycling Program,” said Andrea Smith, director Corporate Communications, for both companies. Ã¢â‚¬Å“Energizing recycling programs in schools will also help educate the next generation on the environmental importance of recycling.” 

“Nevada Power and Sierra Pacific Power Company have long been leaders in community involvement efforts that lead to positive and lasting results,” said Randy Robison, Executive Director, Nevada Association of School Boards. Ã¢â‚¬Å“This new partnership is further evidence of that commitment and provides a unique opportunity for them to again lead the way in protecting the environment while creating a new revenue source for Nevada's public schools.”

A portion of the funds generated by Nevada Power Company's efforts will benefit their focus school, Myrtle Tate Elementary.  The balance of funds generated by Nevada Power will be divided among all other K-12 schools participating in the America's Schools Program. Sierra Pacific Power will work with the Education Collaborative in Washoe County, and other school districts throughout its northern Nevada and northeastern California service area to distribute funds raised by this program.
