Nevada Power Company reported a record system peak of 5,410 megawatts (MW) at 5 p.m. today. This exceeds the previous system peaks recorded during the past two daysâ€" 5,306 MW on Wednesday, July 13, and 5,062 MW the day before.

The company said it is not unusual to consistently exceed previous peaks during periods of extreme temperatures and the current heat wave throughout the state is expected to continue.

Heat is not the only factor in establishing the records. Nevada Power currently has more than 740,000 customers which represent significant growth when compared with approximately 700,000 customers just one year ago.
