For Immediate Release

Sierra Pacific Power reported that a record electric system peak of 1,716 megawatts* was recorded today at 5 p.m., the third record set in as many days. The company said that above-average temperatures forecasted for the next week could produce more record electric system peaks in the days ahead. The company attributed the string of records to increased use of air conditioning equipment and new customer growth. Previous system peaks were set on Wednesday at 1,698 megawatts; Tuesday at 1,686 megawatts; and 1,657 megawatts set on July 30, 2003.

Sierra Pacific serves approximately 345,000 customers in northern Nevada and the Lake Tahoe area of California.

*One megawatt will power approximately 600 homes and businesses.
