Nevada Power Company recently awarded facility improvement grants to 17 nonprofit agencies that will now complete weatherization and/or energy-efficient retrofit projects to help reduce their operational costs for energy.

Company energy experts helped agencies identify potential energy-saving opportunities and cost-effective methods to help reduce energy costs.  The energy-efficient upgrades include; replacing outdated cooling units with ultra-efficient mechanical units, installing solar screens, lighting retrofits, installing programmable thermostats and window film as well as upgrading appliances to more efficient Energy Star models.

Grants were given in dollar amounts ranging from $700 to $10,000 for a grand total of $94,980.  This represents a potential savings of 297,785 kWh or $22,600 for the year.

"This program provides a win-win-win for us, these non-profit agencies and the citizens that receive these agency services.  The energy savings from these projects will reduce monthly operating costs, allowing these agencies to provide more services,” said Bob Balzar, director of Energy Efficiency and Conservation at Nevada Power Company.
