Charles V."Charlie"Basso has joined Sierra Pacific Resources as its Ely Energy Center Community Representative in the company's new Ely Office.  Basso will act as Sierra Pacific's representative working as a liaison with the company and community groups, including various governmental entities, the Chamber of Commerce and the White Pine Economic Development Authority.

Sierra Pacific's new office is located at 705 Aultman Street, No. 3.

Basso is an Ely native and a graduate of White Pine High School.  Beginning in 1960 he worked in the accounting field for Kennecott Nevada Mines Division in McGill.  In 1978 he transferred to Kennecott's corporate headquarters in Salt Lake City.  While in Salt Lake City he also worked for MK Gold and retired as accounting manager of Rio Tinto Zinc.

"We're delighted to have Charlie become part of our team,"said Mary Simmons, vice president of External Affairs for Sierra Pacific Power Company."Charlie knows the area and the concerns of the people in and around Ely.  His counsel will be most helpful as we proceed with our plans to permit and construct our state-of-the-art electric power complex in White Pine County."

In January, Sierra Pacific Resources announced its intention to move forward with the development of a $3 billion coal-fired power complex near Ely and construct a high voltage electric transmission line that would extend for 250 miles from Ely to Las Vegas and provide the first electrical interconnection between the Sierra Pacific Power Company and Nevada Power Company, both subsidiaries of Sierra Pacific Resources.
