Sierra Pacific Resources to Sell Gas Transmission Business to TC PipeLines, LP

Sierra Pacific Resources (NYSE: SRP) today announced it has entered into agreements to sell its 50 percent interest in the Tuscarora Gas Transmission Company to TC PipeLines, LP for $100 million. The sale, subject to customary closing conditions, is expected to close by year end 2006.

Tuscarora Gas Pipeline Company, a subsidiary of Sierra Pacific Resources, currently serves as the operator of Tuscarora Gas Transmission Company's 240-mile natural gas pipeline from Malin, Oregon, to Reno, Nevada. TransCanada will become the operator following the closing of the sale.

Sierra Pacific Power Company, Sierra Pacific Resources'utility in northern Nevada, is currently the primary customer for natural gas transportation on the Tuscarora pipeline and will continue to be so following the sale. Rates for the pipeline are governed by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

Earlier this year, Sierra Pacific Resources had announced plans to sell its interest in the Tuscarora Gas Transmission business in order to concentrate more fully on its rapidly growing utility businesses.

Lazard Freres& Co. LLC is serving as Sierra Pacific Resources'financial advisor and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher& Flom LLP is serving as its legal advisor.
