NEVADA POWER TO PROMOTE ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP, CONSERVATION AND RENEWABLE ENERGY DURING EARTH MONTH

To promote environmental stewardship, conservation and the use of renewable resources such as solar, geothermal and wind power, Nevada Power will conduct and participate in various Earth Month events.  The schedule of events and associated activities are as follows:

Thursday, April 19 - 11 a.m.â€" 12:30 p.m.
New Nevada Power Refrigerator Recycling Facility Dedication and Program Launch Event
JACO Recycling Center (Faces East toward I-15/Cashman Equipment), Craig Commerce Center, 2711 East Craig Rd., Suite C/D

Nevada Power and JACO Environmental will dedicate Nevada's only state-of-the-art refrigerator recycling center and launch a new refrigerator recycling program. To celebrate the launch of the statewide refrigerator recycling program, Nevada Power President Pat Shalmy will use an ax to deface a used fridge, a routine act to mark the appliance as unusable.

Friday, April 20- 9 a.m.â€" Noon
UNLV Earth Day/UNLV Campus

Elementary and middle school students are bused to campus where Nevada Power will provide safety and energy conservation activity books and school supplies.  The company's environmental services department will also be on hand to provide information about local wildlife.

Saturday, April 21- 8 a.m.â€" 3 p.m.
New Horizons Academy Bulb Swap Event

6701 W. Charleston Boulevard (one block east of Rainbow)

Customers may exchange incandescent light bulbs for more energy efficient compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs).  Nevada Power will supply up to 5,000 CFLs.  Energy Star® qualified CFLs use at least two-thirds less energy than standard bulb, generate 70 percent less heat and last up to 10 times longer.

In addition, New Horizons Academy will be recycling gently used goods at its annual yard sale.

Summerlin Earthfaire at Summerlin Center Community Park

1800 Town Center Drive

This is the largest Earth Day event in Las Vegas and promotes a strong environmental and conservation message.  Nevada Power will man a tent at the event to promote its conservation and energy education programs.  A limited amount of CFLs will also be available for attendees.

Cool City Festival sponsored by Whole Foods, the Sierra Club and the
Nevada Center for the Blind

The District at Green Valley Parkway& I-215

Nevada Power will host a display with energy education, conservation and related program information.  Through a partnership with the company, CFLs will be distributed by the Sierra Club.

Groundbreaking of Largest Photovoltaic Power System

Nellis Air Force Base

Nevada Power will participate in this ceremony with Nellis Air Force Base, MMA Renewable Ventures and Powerlight Corporation.
