Sierra Pacific Power is holding an open house for residents of the South Valleys area of the Truckee Meadows to get information and provide their comments on the utility's plans for a new substation and power line to serve the growing energy needs of the area.  The open house is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the South Valleys Library, 15650A Wedge Parkway.

In order to avoid overloading the existing network of substations and power lines that serves the South Valleys, Sierra Pacific Power plans to construct a substation within the area south of the intersection of Highway 395 and South Virginia Street, west of Double R Boulevard, north of Damonte Ranch Parkway and Arrowcreek Parkway, and east of South Hills Drive. A new electric transmission line will be needed to connect the substation to existing electrical facilities.

Sierra Pacific representatives will be available at the open house to discuss the planned project with residents. There will also be maps showing the potential substation sites and transmission line routes that are being considered.

For more information about the open house, please call Sierra Pacific Power's Land Operations Department at (775) 834-3467.
