Summit Racing, a motorsports parts retailer in Sparks, has received a $50,725 incentive payment for investing in energy efficiency. The payment was from NV Energy's Sure Bet program, which encourages northern Nevada businesses to install energy efficient equipment and lighting.

Summit Racing upgraded 789 lighting fixtures at its warehouse on Glendale Avenue in Sparks to accommodate more energy efficient fluorescent lights. The new lights should reduce the retailer's annual energy usage by about 900,212 kilowatt hours, according to Mary Ann Sheehan, project manager for energy efficiency and conservation at NV Energy.

In 2008, energy efficiency investments done through the Sure Bet program saved 155 million kilowatt hours of electricity statewide, Sheehan said. Businesses that participate in the program benefit from reduced energy bills, and the incentive payments help offset their costs for energy efficiency improvements.
