NV Energy is sponsoring a free workshop for NV Energy electric customers interested in generating their own electricity with renewable energy. The workshop for residents of the Reno-Sparks-Carson City area will be on Thursday, March 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the auditorium at NV Energy's Reno office, 6100 Neil Road. (Reservations are not required. However, space is limited. Please park in the utility's east parking lot off the Delucchi Lane entrance to NV Energy.)

Renewable energy experts from NV Energy will explain how the company's rebate programs for photovoltaic solar, wind or hydroelectric power systems make renewable energy more affordable. They'll also describe changes that have been made to the rebate program in order to speed up the application process.

Attendees will have an opportunity to meet local contractors and consultants who design and install small renewable energy power systems, and information about renewable power generation will be available at vendor displays.

NV Energy will begin taking applications for the SolarGenerations incentive program on March 24. A signed contract to purchase and install a system is now required for residential customers and small businesses before they can submit an application for the rebate program. Contractors and consultants at the event will be able to help customers comply with this new requirement. Schools and public buildings are also eligible to participate. Applications are currently being accepted for customers interested in rebates for wind and hydroelectric projects.

Since the start of NV Energy's SolarGenerations program six years ago, 565 photovoltaic projects capable of generating 3.8 megawatts of electricity have been installed statewide and $13.6 million has been paid in rebates to program participants, according to John Hargrove, project manager for NV Energy.
