Reno– BURGER KING® restaurants in northern Nevada have reduced their energy bills and their carbon footprint by investing in energy efficiency at 12 locations. The improvements have reduced their annual electricity usage by 995,959 kilowatt hours since 2008. That's enough electricity to power about110 homes for a year in northern Nevada, and a 747-ton reduction in carbon emissions.

By participating in NV Energy'Sure Bet Program, an energy efficiency incentive program for commercial electric customers, restaurant franchisee Jill Lillaney has received $48,900 in incentives from Sure Bet to help offset costs of the upgrades.

"he BURGER KING® restaurants in northern Nevada are being remodeled not only to update the image but to obtain energy savings through investing in energy saving lighting and equipment,"said Lillaney."Receiving a rebate is a wonderful bonus for doing our part to save energy and operate more efficient'green'BURGER KING® restaurants in our local communities."

Added Lillaney,"We are proud to make an investment to obtain energy efficient BURGER KING® restaurants which allows us to do our part to help conserve energy."

Besides replacing existing lights with energy efficient fluorescent and LED lights, the restaurant operator has replaced steam tables for warming sandwich buns with toasters modified for energy efficiency; modified the heat ventilation from the grill to reduce air conditioning costs; and installed occupancy sensors to automatically switch lights on and off in restrooms.
