Sierra Pacific Resources Announces Date of Special Meeting of Stockholders

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 23, 2008--Sierra Pacific Resources (NYSE: SRP) announced today that a special meeting of its stockholders has been called for Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 10 a.m., Pacific time, at the offices of Nevada Power Company - now doing business as NV Energy - 6226 W. Sahara Ave., Las Vegas. The purpose of the special meeting of stockholders is to consider an amendment to the company's Restated Articles of Incorporation to change its name from Sierra Pacific Resources to NV Energy, Inc. and to provide that the company's principal place of business shall be at such location as designated from time to time by the company's Board of Directors. Stockholders of record of the company's common stock at the close of business on Oct. 6 will be entitled to vote at the special meeting.

Headquartered in Nevada, Sierra Pacific Resources is a holding company whose principal subsidiaries are Nevada Power Company - now doing business as NV Energy - the electric utility for most of southern Nevada, and Sierra Pacific Power Company - now doing business as NV Energy - the electric utility for most of northern Nevada and the Lake Tahoe area of California.
